Have You Ever asked the question, Are vintage and antique the same?

that vintage style and retro appeal

Are Vintage and Antique the same?

That would be a Yes, at least it is a could be.  But then again, they might not be.  Vintage is considered to be older than 20 years and we know antiques are definitely older than 20 yrs.  So, it is pretty safe to say they do fall into the same category.  BUT.  The big difference lies in our minds and how we view or perceive this to be.

There is so much you can do decorating or finding fun accessories.  All you have to do is think outside the box a little and mix and match new and old together.  They when someone asks, are vintage and antique the same, you can share that they are very similar one just being somewhat older or give them their personal choice on it.

Where Do You Find Your Thoughts Going on this?

My personal thoughts are that they are similar but Vintage and Retro are much newer than antiques.  If you have a steamer trunk that is more than 100 years old, I think if the question comes up, are vintage and antique the same, you could answer with your own personal opinion but more than likely it is an antique.    Whenever you are not sure, I would go with the vintage.  Here is another way to look at this.

A general rule when asking are vintage and antique the same goes like this:

‘Something antique is also vintage, but something vintage isn’t necessarily antique. The term vintage refers to an item that was made in an earlier generation. Antique refers to something that is over 100 years old.’

And Retro…now this one is fun, is anything vaguely representative of the 60s or 70s, 80s and now into the ’90s.  Something new made to look old.  Bringing back something from another era…like fashion!  How many ways can we do fashion with so many trends?  We take what was and change it up a tiny bit and voila, you have new and Retro!

Here is the Merriam Webster definition:

According to Merriam Webster, retro is “relating to, reviving, or being the styles and especially the fashions of the past: fashionably nostalgic or old-fashioned.”

And also according to Merriam Webster, an antique is “a relic or object of ancient times” or “a work of art, piece of furniture, or decorative object made at an earlier period and according to various customs laws at least 100 years ago

The Only Place it Gets Complicated

Yes, one is in what we know as an Antique Store and the other is when you attend an estate sale and diamonds and other precious gems are being sold.  You want to know the what and the ‘why’ of paying those hefty dollars and so you should.  Generally speaking, they have dealers present that have the training to identify this aspect.

When you are shopping for fashion accessories you know it is most often a ‘look-a-like’ or similar to that time frame.  Something that was once old but is now new.  And that is exactly what and where we are here at That Vintage Style.

A fun place to add retro/vintage appeal to yourself or your home.  A really perfect example is the kitchen ideas and products in the store.  These are brand new now but were used more than 20 years ago.  Just brought back into the future because, well, they WORK!   A Meat grinder, sink accessory items a meat mallet and yes ↓ the coffee grinder!

are vintage and antique the same thing is a good question

It works beautifully and actually is made a bit stronger for durability and ease of use.  Thinking of a gift?
